OREM, UT – Mayor Young of Orem recently emphasized the city’s revitalized identity as “Family City USA“, a motto that now graces city buildings, vehicles, uniforms, and more. However, this is not just a catchphrase. It’s a principle that guides every decision made in Orem.
“Every step we take, every decision we make, is measured against one simple question: Does this promote family values in Orem?” Mayor Young stated. This focus on family is rooted in the belief that the family unit is the bedrock of society. Strong families lead to numerous societal benefits, including longer life expectancies, reduced crime rates, and higher academic achievements.
This year, Orem’s dedication to its families has been evident. The city passed a balanced budget, increased investments in public safety, parks, and city facilities, all without introducing new taxes. In fact, some fees were even reduced. The city’s focus on efficiency has saved a whopping 1.1 million dollars in operational costs this year alone.
In a move to protect family neighborhoods, the State Street Master Plan was repealed, eliminating the potential for ten thousand high-density apartments on State Street. The city has also rezoned all publicly owned land, ensuring Orem’s beautiful public spaces are preserved for future generations. Plans are also in place for a new 10-million-gallon water tank to cater to the long-term water needs of Orem’s families.
Residents can look forward to two new world-class parks, offering families picturesque spots for quality time. These efforts have placed Orem on the map, with the city being recognized as one of the top 100 Livable Cities in the United States out of 2,300 cities evaluated.
Mayor Young and the City Council are unwavering in their commitment to ensuring Orem remains synonymous with “Family City USA“. Their dedication is a testament to their profound commitment to the community’s well-being and prosperity for years to come.
In celebration of Orem’s values, the City Council has designated September as Orem’s first-ever Constitution Month. Residents are encouraged to partake in special activities throughout the city.
As fall sets in, Mayor Young hopes residents will relish the season with their loved ones, enjoying all that Orem offers. “I’ll see you next month,” he signs off, a reminder of his continued commitment to the city and its residents.
